Worthy Brief - 10/24/2016
Friend, our days are numbered, Hallelujah!
Psalms 90:12-14 So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom. Return, O Lord! How long? And have compassion on Your servants. Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days!
Some time ago I installed an interesting app on my phone that counts days, keeping track of anniversaries and all days of significance. For example, I know that, as of today, I've been married 5,267 days. Worthy News is 6,506 days old and counting. But most curiously, today happens to clock in an anniversary which may have gone completely unnoticed but for my attention to it using this app: the nation of Israel was birthed on May 14, 1948 and today marks its 25,000th day of existence.
And it just happens that this 25,000th day of Israel's modern history also marks the conclusion of Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles), and the climax of entering into a new year. Last night, we celebrated Hoshana Rabbah, the seventh day of Sukkot. And tonight begins the concluding (8th) day of the annual cycle of public Torah reading, Simchat Torah. Interesting coincidence...
We know from many examples in scripture that YHVH is the author of mathematics and that our times are in His hands [Psalm 31:15]. This goes for individuals, nations, and the course of all human history. The Lord's promise concerning Israel has been so clearly affirmed:
Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for a light by day, The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, Who disturbs the sea, And its waves roar (The Lord of hosts is His name): "If those ordinances depart From before Me, says the Lord, Then the seed of Israel shall also cease From being a nation before Me forever." Thus says the Lord: "If heaven above can be measured, And the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel For all that they have done, says the Lord. [Jeremiah 31:35-37]
Friend, God's promise to Israel, this 25,000th day, should deeply encourage all of us. Why? Because His absolute faithfulness to ALL of His words and promises assures us that everything He has said concerning His beloved ones will certainly come to pass. Not only are our days perfectly numbered, (and Moses told us to number them that we may gain a heart of wisdom), but they roll towards a perfectly realized destiny that He carries in His great heart for us. As we begin the New Year may we be rejoicing in the fact that God has orchestrated all our days perfectly; He is faithful to fulfill what He has started–from the moment of salvation to our bodily resurrection, to the recreation of the universe in the New Heavens and New Earth! Even so, come Lord Yeshua!
Your family in the Lord with much agape love,
